From my notebook …

 

When I paint I convey emotions. My “depiction of the world” is a conscious and intensely subjective recording of the state of mind – emotions, feelings, impressions, apprehensions, dreams, whispers of intuition … The paintings are a personal record of the emotional equivalent of the thought process.

They require time and concentration.

 

Abstract painting is music for the eyes, it is poetry expressed through colour.

 

With time I have less need for paintings to mirror reality. The language of “emotional abstraction” that I use is best suited “not-to-name” that which I want to convey, because I believe that literal communication takes away the depth of the message. “Not-to-name” is “not to give it a name” – a name domesticates, tames, censures, becomes less distant, reduces perspective …

 

I am fascinated by light. When I look at the world I observe light, it is the light that builds form, gives it colour. Light is energy.

Matter is an illusion – the world is pure energy in a slightly more organised form. Divine order (however we perceive God) permeates everything - bringing order to this form. And it is in this sense that the form is something that is perfectly balanced …
